While our leases state that we do not allow subleasing, we generally will allow it for students as this “gone for the summer” scenario is common.

However, there are caveats and things we would like you to be aware of before making this decision:

• We expect that you know and have some sort of prior relationship with this person. No randos from ads you posted on Craigslist or Marketplace looking for someone to sublease.
• You are taking on liability with this arrangement. If the person subleasing were to damage the property, the particular bedroom, or do anything else harmful, it would be your security deposit on the line.
• Any sublease rent payment we expect to be between you and the person subleasing. We do not want to have to pursue payment with the other person. You pay us, they pay you.
• We generally expect NOT to communicate with this person, but will want their contact info and for you to give them ours in case of emergency.
• You will want to discuss this arrangement with any roommates beforehand as they will cohabitate with this person and presumably there is some dividing of bills for gas/electric, internet, etc.
