If you live in a multi-family building, generally Major Services provides for snow removal. If you live in a single family home, you are generally responsible for your own snow removal. Your lease will specify who handles snow removal. The below applies for properties where Major Services provides snow removal services.
Snow Removal Services
Major Services contracts out companies to plow driveways and parking lots as well as clear the common sidewalks. Tenants are responsible for personal porches, decks and stairs.
- If there is less than an inch of snowfall generally the companies do not come.
- They should come within 24 hours of the snowfall stopping, generally much sooner but please don’t expect them to be there at 6am. The company has many other customers as well. They come as soon as they can. If they haven’t come within 24 hours, please call us.
- The company puts down salt as well, but this may not happen right away if temps are too low. This is because the salt will cause snow to turn to water and then become ice.
- Please try to ensure cars are not blocking the path to plow. If people are parked in their regular spots and pulled in all the way this won’t be an issue.
Salt Buckets
As a courtesy, we provide salt buckets at our properties near main entrances or common stairs. With the buckets please keep in mind the following:
- Generally we provide a scoop in the bucket but these tend to go missing over time. If that is the case just use an old gas station cup or cool whip/butter container (anything really works). We will not come out to the property to provide a new scoop.
- Please keep the lids on the buckets and put it back on when you are done using. With no lids, the snowfall will go right into the bucket and melt the salt, thus wasting it.
- Please use the salt sparingly. We’ve had people dump out a whole bucket before. Remember we provide these as a courtesy and reserve the right to stop providing them at any time.
- Notify us when the buckets are empty and we will fill them next time we are at the property. We will not make a special trip solely to refill salt. We are also ok with and appreciate if a tenant is out and about and picks up a bag of salt. We will happily credit the amount the salt costs on that tenant’s rent bill (deduct the amount from rent).
