Clogged Toilets

Prevention

If it isn’t toilet paper and it didn’t come out of your body, then it shouldn’t go down the drain!  Toilets/drains will not accept things such as paper diapers, sanitary napkins, tampons, baby or flushable wipes, children’s toys, wads of toilet paper, balls of hair, grease, oil, table scraps, clothing, rags, sand, dirt, kitty litter, rocks, or newspapers. These items will eventually always lead to clogs. The unit had free and clear drains when you moved in and in the event of a clog you will be billed for the labor and any materials to unclog it.

Plunging

If water is overflowing, immediately shut off the water supply valve underneath the toilet.  Make sure you have the correct type of plunger on hand.  A toilet plunger is known as a flange type.  Plunging with a sink type plunger can work, it is just not as overall effective.

Please refer to the video below that explains the correct way to plunge a toilet.

If you’ve tried plunging the toilet and are unsuccessful in removing the clog, please call us If maintenance arrives for a clogged toilet and solves the solution by simply plunging the toilet, tenants will incur a service charge of at least $25.
